From Ahmad Saka,Bauchi
Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed , has admonished Muslims and Christians to always show love to their neighbours, and avoid the inclination to judge others based on religion or region.
Aisha said this when she organized a one-day interfaith prayer session aimed at promoting peace, moral renewal, and unity among citizens.
The program, with the theme “Seeking the Face of God for Righteous Living in Challenging Times,” brought together Christians to pray and reflect on the values needed to strengthen society with the aimed to promote peaceful coexistence, Aisha said both Islam and Christianity share values of love, compassion, tolerance, and justice.
Aisha described the gathering as the second phase of the peace initiative spearheaded by her office.
She explained that while the first edition focused on the Muslim Ummah, the present session centered on the Christian community—showing that peace is a shared aspiration across faiths.
Aisha said that the world is going through profound economic, social, and moral challenges that require people to seek divine guidance, live righteously, and uphold moral values. According to her, both Islam and Christianity preach love, compassion, tolerance, and justice, which are essential for building a just and peaceful society.
She stressed the need for harmony between the two dominant faiths, and raised concern over rising cases of moral decadence, substance abuse, materialism, and youth involvement in violence.
Aisha lamented the growing incidence of sexual abuse and exploitation, describing it as a grave injustice that must be confronted collectively.
The First Lady stressed that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of values, safety, and justice in society.
She called on religious leaders, families, and community stakeholders to work together towards a better and morally upright Bauchi State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi State, Rev. Abraham Damina Dimeus, commended the government for promoting inclusiveness in governance.
Represented by the State Secretary, Rev. Matthew Laslimbo, commended the First Lady for convening the peace meeting at a time when, he said, the nation requires divine intervention.
He assured that the Christian community would continue to support the administration for the progress of the state.
The interfaith prayer session featured supplications for peace, unity, and divine guidance for the state and the nation at large
