The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has officially joined the prestigious St. Jude Global Alliance through the signing of a Medical Institution Membership Agreement (MIMA) with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Usman Abdullahi Koli, Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, ATBUTH Bauchi.
It said the partnership marks ATBUTH’s formal inclusion into a global network of leading hospitals and research centers dedicated to improving the survival rates and quality of life of children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
The Chief Medical Director, Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin, described the collaboration as a landmark achievement in the hospital’s pursuit of excellence in pediatric oncology and global medical cooperation.
He noted that the agreement reflects ATBUTH’s vision to deliver world-class healthcare and hope to children and families affected by childhood cancer.
According to him, the partnership will boost the hospital’s research capabilities, strengthen clinical expertise, and align its operations with international best practices.
A Dr. Kefas John Bwala, Coordinator of the Children Oncology Group and Paediatric Surgeon at ATBUTH, expressed optimism about the new alliance, describing it as “a new dawn for pediatric oncology in Bauchi and Nigeria.”
He emphasised that the collaboration will provide access to global mentorship, standardized treatment protocols, and specialized training opportunities that will enhance the hospital’s capacity to manage childhood cancers effectively.With this partnership,
