The Borno State Government has expressed readiness to partner with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to revive train services between Maiduguri and its surrounding communities.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs. Sefrem Felix-Feson, District Public Relations Officer, North Eastern District (NED), Bauchi, and made available to newsmen on Monday.

It said this is part of efforts to boost economic activities and improve the state’s transportation system.

According to the statement, the Railway District Manager (RDM), Mr. Marcellinus Zirra, alongside his team, embarked on a familiarization tour to the Maiduguri Railway Depot, one of the key commercial stations within the district.

“During the visit, Mr. Zirra inspected the station’s facilities and interacted with staff, reaffirming that the Borno State Government is planning to invest significantly in the rail sector to enhance connectivity and promote regional commerce.

He explained that the revival of the Maiduguri rail line, once a major transport route linking other communities, is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate trade, and ease the movement of goods and passengers.

The RDM explained that the tour formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operations and improve service delivery across the district.

Mr. Zirra also emphasised the importance of punctuality, discipline, and effective coordination among staff to achieve the corporation’s renewed vision.

“The North Eastern District is committed to restoring its former glory in line with the Managing Director’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the Nigerian Railway system,” he stated.
