The Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) has conferred an Education Champion Award on the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and commitment to improving basic education in the state.

The award was presented during an advocacy visit by members of CSACEFA to commemorate the coalition’s 40th anniversary.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of CSACEFA, Mr. Nicholas Afeso Oshojah, commended SUBEB for its sustained efforts in promoting access, inclusion, and accountability within the state’s basic education sector.

Oshojah praised SUBEB’s notable achievements, including the statewide school enrolment drive that brought thousands of out-of-school children especially girls back into classrooms,

The establishment of community-based learning centres, and the improvement of teacher supervision and accountability systems.

He emphasised that CSACEFA, a coalition of over 600 civil society organizations founded in 2000, remains committed to ensuring free, quality, and inclusive education across Nigeria.

In Bauchi, he noted, the coalition has partnered with education stakeholders to support teacher training, policy review, budget monitoring, and advocacy for inclusive and safe schools.

Highlighting key appeals to SUBEB, Mrs. Dinah Daniel, CSACEFA’s Treasurer, called for the full implementation of the 2024 Bauchi State Policy on Safety, Security, and Violence-Free SchoolsThe sustainability of the State Education Accounts (SEA) framework, improved coordination among education agencies, and enhanced accountability in budget releases and spending.

Responding, Alhaji Adamu Duguri, represented by the Board’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abdulhamid Mohammed, expressed appreciation to CSACEFA for its support and advocacy, describing education as the state’s top priority.

He reaffirmed SUBEB’s commitment to delivering quality education and ensuring that every child in Bauchi State has access to safe and conducive learning environments.

“Our doors remain open to valuable partnerships and suggestions that will advance the cause of education and sustain children’s enrolment and retention in schools,” he assured.
