A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Alhaji Musa Umar Gwaskwaram has called on Governor Bala Mohammed to consider creating additional emirates in the northern part of the state to ensure fairness, balance, and equitable development across the three senatorial zones.

Gwaskwaram, also a former gubernatorial candidate under the Alliance for Democracy (AD made the call in an interview with Journalists on Wednesday in Bauchi

The PDP stalwart, who hails from Bauchi South, said although the recent creation of new emirate councils by the governor was commendable, there remains a pressing need to extend similar consideration to Bauchi North (Katagum Zone) to achieve a fair distribution of traditional institutions.

It could be recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, signed into law the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2025 and the Zaar Chiefdom Law 2025, thereby establishing 13 additional emirate councils in the state.

“With this development, Bauchi South now has nine emirates, Bauchi Central has six, while Bauchi North has only four.

“To promote equity, I urge the governor to look inward and create more emirates in the northern zone.

“This will strike a balance and strengthen unity among the three geopolitical constituencies of the state,” he stated.

According to Gwaskaram the creation of more emirates carries numerous benefits, including the recognition of cultural identities, administrative convenience, improved service delivery, enhanced political representation, and accelerated economic development through local empowerment and attraction of investments.

He further commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his foresight in setting up a committee to oversee the creation of emirates and chiefdoms, noting that the move reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and socio-cultural advancement.

“The establishment of new emirates is a welcome development that modernizes governance structures while preserving our rich traditional heritage.

“However, achieving balance across all zones is essential to sustain harmony and ensure every part of the state feels included in the process,” Gwaskaram added.

The PDP chieftain reiterated his support for the governor’s leadership and reforms, expressing optimism that extending the emirate creation policy to Bauchi North would deepen cultural recognition, strengthen local institutions, and foster even development across the state.
