Bauchi Stakeholders Validate Gender in Education Policy to Promote Inclusive Learning for Girls
By Ahmed Ahmed
Bauchi State has inched closer to adopting a groundbreaking Gender in Education Policy aimed at advancing inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all, especially girls.
At the conclusion of a three-day engagement held in Bauchi from October 29 to 31, 2025, stakeholders collectively validated the revised policy, producing a refined draft ready for state-level adoption.
The meeting ended with renewed enthusiasm and firm commitments from all partners to ensure every girl in Bauchi State learns, thrives, and realizes her full potential in a safe and supportive environment.
The event organized by the Young Leaders Network (YLN) in partnership with the Malala Fund and AGILE featured a one-day Stakeholders’ Consultation Forum and a two-day Policy Validation Workshop.
It brought together key actors from the Ministry of Education, MDAs, CSACEFA, students, community and religious leaders, and civil society groups to review and finalize the draft policy.
Discussions focused on strengthening gender-responsive education, sustainable financing, and implementing the School Re-Entry Guideline for married and pregnant adolescent girls.
Participants assessed the draft policy, providing practical recommendations to enhance its emphasis on equity, inclusion, and girls’ educational continuity.
The Bauchi State Coordinator of Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) Mr Nicholas Afeso Oshojah described the policy as transformative, noting that it will boost girls’ enrolment, retention, and completion rates across the state.
He explained that improved accountability systems and equity-driven financing will help dismantle long-standing barriers that hinder girls, especially married and pregnant adolescents from pursuing education.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Mohammed, commended the progress made in developing the policy, describing it as a major step toward addressing the challenge of out-of-school children in Bauchi.
He expressed the Ministry’s readiness to receive, endorse, and adopt the final version, emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and quality education for every child.
