Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, have prevented a possible kidnapping of 74 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.
In a statement on Thursday by Sani Uba, media information officer of theatre command, said the corps members, 36 males and 38 females, were stranded on Tuesday at about 9:05 p.m. after their vehicles broke down near a known Boko Haram/ISWAP hotspot.
According to him, the troops were quickly alerted through a CCTV monitoring system that detected suspicious movement involving three buses at the scene.
A rapid-response military patrol was deployed to secure the area and escort the corps members to safety before any attack could occur.
“On arrival, troops discovered 74 NYSC members stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults.
The troops immediately rescued them to prevent a likely abduction attempt by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area”,the statement said.
The rescued corps members are now safe at the Buratai military base as arrangements are made for their relocation.
