Renowned Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Dies at 102, To Be Buried Tomorrow in Bauchi

Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has passed away at the age of 102. He died on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
His funeral prayer and burial are scheduled to be held tomorrow, Friday, in Bauchi.Born on 2nd Al-Muharram 1346 A.H., Sheikh Dahiru hailed from Nafada then under Bauchi State but now part of Gombe State.
He later settled in Kofar Gombe, Bauchi, where he lived until his passing.The revered scholar began his Islamic education under his father, Alhaji Usman, and memorised the Qur’an before the age of 20.
He studied under several notable scholars across and outside Nigeria, often acknowledging Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass as his greatest mentor.
His mastery of Qur’anic memorisation earned him recognition as a “Professor of Qur’anic Education,” and an international Islamic organisation honoured him as one of the world’s leading Mufassirun.
Sheikh Dahiru began his Tafsir sessions in Bauchi in 1948, dedicating 76 years to teaching and interpreting the Holy Qur’an.
His teachings began airing on Bauchi Radio in 1976, and later on Radio Nigeria Kaduna from 1980. Today, many radio stations across Northern Nigeria broadcast his sermons, especially during Ramadan.
A man of immense devotion, he performed Hajj 55 times and Umrah over 205 times.
He established numerous Islamic schools and farmlands, and provided more than 1,000 houses in Bauchi, Kaduna, and other northern states for his children, students, and scholars at no cost.
With thousands of followers across Africa, Sheikh Dahiru was widely celebrated for his powerful preaching, moral guidance, and commitment to spreading the message of peace, devotion, and gratitude to Allah.
Until his death, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
The late scholar leaves behind a large family of 100 children, 406 grandchildren, and 100 great-grandchildren.
A remarkable number among them 78 children, over 199 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren are Qur’an teachers, carrying forward his legacy of scholarship.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State described him as a “towering figure in Islamic scholarship, a man of deep faith, humility, and wisdom,” noting that his influence shaped generations across the continent.
Scholars and disciples also mourned him, praising his lifelong dedication to Islamic education, his stance against societal ills, and his unwavering commitment to peace and moral reform.
They prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon his soul, asking the Almighty to grant him a place in Jannah.
