Gov. Bala approves comprehensive upgrade of NUJ council Secretariat

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved a major overhaul of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) State Secretariat located along Ahmadu Bello Way, signaling a renewed commitment to journalism development and press welfare in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Isah Garba Gadau, made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Bauchi The union expressed profound gratitude to Governor Mohammed for fulfilling his promise to upgrade the Press Centre.

The approval, conveyed to the NUJ Bauchi Council in an official letter dated December 1, 2025, covers the full renovation and modernization of the Secretariat. It also includes the construction of a state-of-the-art conference hall designed to enhance professional engagements, training, and press-related activities.

In addition to the structural upgrade, Governor Mohammed has also approved the installation of a solar power system to address persistent electricity challenges faced by journalists operating from the facility.

The intervention is expected to provide uninterrupted power supply and ease the hardship previously encountered during newsroom operations and press activities at the centre.

The approval came at a critical time, as structures within the Secretariat had deteriorated significantly, prompting urgent calls for intervention.

The NUJ described the governor’s gesture as timely and deeply appreciated.The Council noted that his continued support for press welfare and development serves as a strong motivation for practicing journalists across the state.

The NUJ further assured that the upgraded facility would be used judiciously to promote responsible journalism.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state government by providing accurate, ethical, and development-driven reportage in line with the NUJ Code of Ethics.

The upgrade is expected to significantly improve the working environment for journalists and strengthen media government relations in Bauchi State.
