Army Reaffirms Commitment to Peace at WASA 2025 in Bauchi

The Nigerian Army has reassured residents of Bauchi State of its unwavering commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state, as the 33 Brigade hosted the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) at Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi.

Speaking at the colourful event, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Uchechukwu Godwin Simon, said the Army would continue to deploy all necessary strategies to rid the state of criminal elements.

He stressed that tackling insecurity required the active cooperation and support of citizens, describing security as a collective responsibility.

According to him, meaningful progress in addressing security challenges can only be achieved when members of the public work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

He assured residents that the Army would not relent in its operations against criminals in any part of the state.Brig.Gen. Simon described WASA as an important military tradition that brings together officers, soldiers, their families, and friends to celebrate shared identity, cultural heritage, unity, and collective achievements.

He noted that the event also highlighted the diversity and cohesion within the Nigerian Army, while praising the dedication, discipline, and professionalism of personnel of the 33 Brigade.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for their continuous support and leadership.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who was the Special Guest of Honour, commended the Nigerian Army for its role in maintaining internal security.

Represented by the State Chief Security Adviser, DIG Sani, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Army and other security agencies.

The WASA ceremony featured cultural performances, a tug-of-war competition, awards to outstanding personnel, and the lowering of flags to mark the end of the year’s activities.

The event concluded with a bonfire, symbolising unity and strengthening the bond of brotherhood among personnel and their families.
