The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has expanded its Ramadan humanitarian campaign with the distribution of 300 bags of rice to 300 families of persons living with disabilities in Misau and Azare local government areas of Bauchi State.

Under the initiative, 150 bags were distributed to 150 beneficiary families in Misau Local Government Area, while another 150 bags were presented to families in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.

The outreach is part of BWSO’s broader statewide Ramadan relief programme targeting vulnerable and indigent communities.

The intervention follows a similar exercise recently conducted in Bauchi metropolis, where 400 families of persons living with disabilities received food assistance.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Misau, the Chief Operations Officer of BWSO, Alhaji Ladan Salihu Kangere, said the distribution was carried out in line with the humanitarian vision of Dr Bala Maijama Wunti.

He explained that the organisation remains committed to promoting compassion, inclusion and social responsibility, particularly during Ramadan.Kangere noted that vulnerable households, especially persons living with disabilities, often face heightened economic and mobility challenges during the fasting period.

He said the rice distribution was designed to ease the burden and ensure beneficiaries observe the holy month with dignity.

In Azare, the Chief Finance Officer of BWSO, Dr Umar Dauda, who represented Dr Wunti, said the food items were meant to support disadvantaged families struggling to meet basic needs during Ramadan.

Leaders of persons living with disabilities in both communities expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely amid rising living costs.

They also appealed for sustained support in education and empowerment programmes to reduce street begging.

BWSO’s Chief Communication Officer, Abubakar Al-Sadique, emphasised that the initiative underscores the importance of inclusive development and recognition of persons with disabilities as valued members of society.

The distributions, which also included N500,000 each in Misau and Azare to cover transportation logistics, were conducted transparently, with beneficiaries verified to ensure fairness.

Community stakeholders commended the organisation for prioritising persons with disabilities in its Ramadan outreach.
