The Bauchi State Government has commenced the payment of March salaries to civil servants following a directive by the state governor, Bala Mohammed, aimed at enabling workers to prepare for the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The State Head of Service, Sani Umar, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday in Bauchi, where he also provided updates on the ongoing recruitment exercise in the state civil service.
Umar said the governor had directed the immediate payment of March salaries to all categories of civil servants across the state.
He explained that the payment process had already commenced on March 16 and assured that all workers were expected to receive their salaries before the end of the day.
According to him, the gesture demonstrates the governor’s continued commitment to the welfare of civil servants, particularly during festive periods.
“This will enable workers to celebrate the upcoming Sallah with their families in good spirit,” he said.
Umar expressed appreciation to the governor for prioritising the welfare of workers and sustaining such supportive measures throughout his administration.
He noted that the timely payment of salaries would not only bring relief to civil servants and their families but also stimulate economic activities in the state as workers make purchases in preparation for the festive season.
The Head of Service also used the opportunity to provide an update on the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Bauchi State civil service.
He said the recruitment process had reached its final stage, with interviews already underway in most of the 18 participating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Umar said he had personally monitored the exercise in several institutions, including the Civil Service Commission, Teachers Service Commission, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Housing and Environment, Sharia Commission, and Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare.
He commended the professionalism of the interview panels and the orderly conduct of candidates participating in the exercise.
According to him, once the interviews are concluded, successful candidates will have their appointment letters uploaded to their digital dashboards for easy access and printing.
Umar also warned applicants against paying money to secure employment, noting that security agencies had already arrested some individuals involved in recruitment fraud and investigations were ongoing.
