Northeast CSOs lauds Senate’s N50m support for oyo victim’s family

The Northeast Civil Society Forum (NCSF) has expressed mixed feelings over the recent approval of N50 million by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the family of a victim of abduction in Oyo State,
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, and made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday,
The organisation first extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in Oyo State, describing the loss as a tragedy no family should be forced to endure.
The group commended the Senate for what it described as a compassionate gesture that demonstrates government concern for citizens during moments of grief.
According to the Forum, the intervention sends a strong message that Nigerian lives matter and that victims’ families deserve support in difficult times.
However, the organization appealed to the Senate and the Federal Government to extend similar assistance to families in Borno, Yobe and other conflict-affected states that have suffered years of abductions, killings and displacement caused by insurgency.
The Forum emphasised that it is not opposed to the support granted to the Oyo family but believes such interventions should become a national standard.
It urged authorities to establish a transparent policy for supporting victims of terrorism and violent crimes across the country.
The NCSF maintained that equal treatment of victims would strengthen national unity, promote justice and reassure citizens that no Nigerian grief is valued less than another.
“What is good for Oyo should also be good for Borno,” it said
