Gov Zulum partners UMTH to boost healthcare services across the State

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno State has reaffirmed commitment to strengthening collaboration with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly in resettled communities across the state.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Maiduguri by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya,The governor made the pledge while inspecting drugs, medical equipment and consumables donated from the United States to UMTH and transported to Maiduguri with support from the State Government.
Zulum said discussions were ongoing with UMTH and development partners to replicate the initiative in 20 general hospitals, including 10 newly constructed facilities across the state.
He also welcomed UMTH’s plan to support comprehensive health centres in Rumirgo and Baga, assuring that the state government would provide the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the partnership.
The governor commended the outgoing Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, for transforming the institution despite limited resources.“Also praised Dr. Mairo Mandara for facilitating links with partners in the United States,’ he said.
Speaking during the visit, Ahidjo lauded Zulum’s N500 million intervention after the 2024 flood disaster, noting that N75 million was used to ship donated medical equipment worth hundreds of millions of naira.
It reports that the items include ICU beds, incubators, endoscopy and ultrasound machines, monitors, dental chairs and other critical healthcare supplies.
