UN-PAF Appoints UNIMAID Registrar Borno Director

The United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation (UN-PAF), through the Office of the Africa High Commissioner, has appointed the Registrar of the University of Maiduguri, Ahmad Alhaji Lawan, as its Director for Borno State, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Africa High Commissioner, UN-PAF, and made available to newsmen in Maiduguri.
According to the statement, the appointment recognises Lawan’s extensive academic, professional and administrative experience, placing him at the forefront of the Foundation’s efforts to promote peace, development and community empowerment across the state.
Lawan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Master of Public Administration and Master of Science in International Relations. He is also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management and the Association of Nigeria Universities Professional Administrators.
He is equally a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators and the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administrators, as well as a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.
As Borno State Director, Lawan is expected to provide strategic leadership, administrative coordination, institutional representation and programme development for UN-PAF activities in the state.
His responsibilities will include supporting peacebuilding and conflict prevention initiatives, dialogue and reconciliation, humanitarian and community development, youth and women empowerment, human rights, education, professional development and sustainable development programmes.
The statement said he would also promote community resilience, stakeholder engagement and programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Lawan is expected to work with government institutions, traditional and religious leaders, educational institutions, civil society organisations, development partners, youth and women groups, Peace Ambassadors and local communities.
The Office of the Africa High Commissioner expressed confidence that his experience and commitment to public service would contribute significantly to peacebuilding, humanitarian action and sustainable development in Borno.
The Foundation therefore urged its officials, partners and members to support him as he assumes the new responsibility.
The University of Maiduguri community congratulated Lawan and wished him success in his new assignment.
