PRP Condemns Alleged Interference in Judicial Matters by Scholars’ Group, Bauchi Assembly

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, has strongly condemned what it described as unwarranted interference and politicisation of judicial matters by the Coalition of Bauchi State Islamic Scholars and the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

This condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the State Secretary of the party, Hon. Wada Abdullahi, and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday.

According to the PRP, recent actions and statements credited to the scholars’ coalition and the House of Assembly are baseless and constitute a direct assault on the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of ongoing legal and investigative processes.

The party expressed concern that religious clerics, who are expected to promote truth, justice, and fairness, have allegedly ventured into partisan politics by defending suspects and issuing what it termed fawning and unsubstantiated statements.

The party accused the group of attempting to undermine the judiciary and law enforcement agencies, describing their conduct as desperate, sycophantic, and aimed at shielding individuals facing serious allegations from the full weight of the law.

The PRP advised the clerics to desist from what it called masquerading as neutral scholars, adding that their actions suggest clear partisan interests.

The statement also criticised the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, accusing him of abandoning the legislature’s constitutional responsibility of oversight and accountability.

The party alleged that the Assembly has been reduced to a rubber stamp for the executive arm of government, with the Speaker purportedly acting as a defender of officials under investigation for grave offences.

The PRP described such conduct as unprecedented and damaging to the credibility of the legislature, urging the Speaker to reconsider his stance and realign with the constitutional oath of office.

In conclusion, the PRP called on citizens to resist any attempts to undermine justice and the rule of law, stressing that the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of democratic institutions must be upheld above personal or political interests.
