Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on party members and supporters across the country to remain calm and law-abiding ahead of the ruling by the Court of Appeal Nigeria on the party’s leadership crisis.
The appeal court is expected to deliver judgment on Monday, March 9, on the dispute affecting the leadership of the opposition party.
In a statement issued by the Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the forum, chaired by the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, urged party faithful nationwide to maintain peace before, during and after the court’s decision.
The forum said the moment represents a critical test for Nigeria’s democracy and emphasised the importance of respecting the judicial process.
According to the governors, the judiciary remains the custodian of justice and fairness, noting that its role is vital to maintaining national stability and democratic order.
They stressed that regardless of the outcome of the ruling, the PDP remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace.
“The PDP has always been a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic journey, contributing to the strengthening of institutions that safeguard the rights of citizens,” the statement said.
The governors therefore urged members and leaders of the party to exercise maximum restraint and discipline in their response to the judgment.
They also disclosed that the party leadership would meet immediately after the ruling to review the judgment and determine the appropriate next line of action.
The forum further reassured members with political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections of the party’s commitment to providing a credible platform for their aspirations.
It added that the PDP remains determined to offer Nigerians a strong and people-centred alternative as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 polls.
The governors reaffirmed confidence in the judiciary’s constitutional role in safeguarding democratic governance and ensuring justice for all.
