PRP Bye-Election Results, Eye-Opener for 2027 — Shehu Buba

By Ahmed Ahmed

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi State, Sen. Shehu Buba Umar, has described the outcome of the recent bye-elections in Disina and Sakwa constituencies as an “eye-opener” rather than a verdict on the 2027 general elections.

Umar, who is also the PRP leader in the state, said the elections provided valuable lessons for the party to strengthen its structures and improve its grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Bauchi by Comrade Sabo Mohammed, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the senator.

He said bye-elections and general elections were conducted under different circumstances, with varying levels of participation, issues and political dynamics.

According to him, the performance of PRP candidates in the two constituencies provided an opportunity for the party to assess its grassroots presence and identify areas requiring improvement.

“The bye-election has come and gone, but it should be seen as an eye-opener rather than a final verdict on the 2027 general elections.

“It provides us with an opportunity to study the results, understand the lessons and strengthen our structures ahead of the general elections,” he said.

Umar said the party would conduct a comprehensive assessment of the elections in consultation with its executives, elected representatives, stakeholders and candidates.

He said the review would focus on grassroots mobilisation, voter engagement, internal coordination, communication and election-day organisation.

The PRP leader urged supporters and stakeholders not to be discouraged by the outcome but to remain united, peaceful and committed to strengthening the party across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.

He also called on supporters to engage voters through issues, policies and the party’s vision for Bauchi State.

Umar commended the candidates, party officials, supporters and other stakeholders for their commitment during the elections, while appreciating the electorate for participating in the democratic process.

He also urged election management authorities and stakeholders to work toward credible, transparent and peaceful elections that reflected the choice of voters.

“We will continue to engage, organise and strengthen our party structures across Bauchi State,” he said.
