Coalition Mobilises 300 Associations for Zulum, Gubio, APC

MAIDUGURI — The Coalition of Clubs and Associations in Borno has pledged to mobilise its members and supporters across the state in support of Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Mustapha Gubio.
The coalition’s Secretary, Mr Garba Dolars, made the declaration on Friday at a press conference in Maiduguri.
Dolars said the coalition comprised more than 300 associations, with many of its members being shop owners and beneficiaries of various government support programmes facilitated through the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation.
He also appealed to members of the public to accept the apology tendered by the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation, Mr Saina Buba, over comments made during an empowerment programme organised by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri.
According to him, the commissioner is human and, like everyone, could make mistakes, stressing that Buba had already acknowledged the concerns generated by the viral video and apologised to the public.
“We stand with the governor, the commissioner, the APC, the governorship candidate, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, and his deputy. We remain loyal and committed to this administration,” Dolars said.
He urged the public to disregard comments allegedly aimed at tarnishing the image of the Zulum administration, describing the government as committed to supporting youths and other segments of society.
Buba had earlier clarified that his comment at the City Boy Movement empowerment programme did not represent the ideals of the APC or the Zulum administration.
The commissioner said the administration respected the rights of citizens and continued to uphold the interests of all segments of society, particularly youths who, he said, had remained steadfast supporters of the party and the government.
He expressed regret over the controversy generated by his remarks and reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of the administration.
