The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has distributed over 21,000 bags of Semovita across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship in the country.

The gesture follows an earlier intervention where the senator gave ₦10,000 cash and a bag of Semovita each to 1,000 women at the Federal Low-Cost Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi.Speaking during the distribution exercise, Senator Buba expressed optimism that the prevailing economic challenges would soon ease, citing the federal government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy.

He said the government had made significant progress in stabilizing the naira and improving import and export activities, noting that “the hardship being experienced is temporary and will soon be over.”

Senator Buba also hinted that the Senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would soon join the All Progressives Congress (APC). He further urged Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of Bauchi Central to also join the ruling party to “work together for the progress of Bauchi State and Nigeria.”

The senator commended the peaceful conduct of his constituents, saying it has contributed to the success of the APC government in delivering the dividends of democracy. He appealed for sustained peace and cooperation, stressing that “without peace, there can be no meaningful development.”

The APC State Organising Secretary and chairman of the distribution committee, Alhaji Abdulkadir Gyangyan, lauded Senator Buba for his continuous support to the people, saying the gesture “has helped to reduce hunger among our communities.”

He explained that 1,000 bags of Semovita would be distributed to the seven local government areas under Bauchi South—Bauchi, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro, Toro, Alkaleri, and Kirfi—while the remaining 13 LGAs would each receive 500 bags.

He added that the remaining bags would be shared among party officials, political organizations, and associations. An APC stalwart, Alhaji Aminu Muhammad Danmalikin Bauchi, described Senator Buba as “a true representative of the people,” noting his support for education through the sponsorship of 500 students studying physical and environmental sciences at Malikiyya College and several others within and outside the country. Also speaking, Islamic cleric Dr. Usman Giade urged beneficiaries to use the food items wisely and pray for the senator’s continued success.

Many of the beneficiaries who spoke to journalists thanked Senator Buba for his intervention, saying it had eased their hardship and called on other political office holders to emulate him.
