SAZU VC Charges Researchers on Solution-Driven Studies for National Development

The Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, has called on academic staff and researchers to focus on impactful and solution-oriented research capable of addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable national development through stronger collaboration with industries and development partners.

Tahir made the call during the closing ceremony of a three-day Stepdown Training Workshop on Research Administration, Industry Collaboration and Commercialization organized by the Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation (CERI) at the university’s Gadau Main Campus.

She described the workshop as timely and significant, stressing that research should go beyond theoretical exercises and laboratory work to produce practical solutions that can improve livelihoods and transform communities.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the training provided participants with an opportunity to acquire relevant knowledge and modern research skills needed to strengthen their academic capacity and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the university and the wider society.

Professor Tahir urged participants to apply the knowledge gained by establishing productive partnerships with industries, institutions and development organizations to enhance innovation and commercialization of research findings.

She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to staff development through continuous training and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving teaching quality, research output, innovation and community service delivery.

The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated the institution’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in advancing research and innovation for the development of Bauchi State and the country at large.

During the event, certificates of appreciation were presented to facilitators, while participants received certificates in recognition of their commitment throughout the workshop.

Earlier, the Director of CERI, Dr. Usman Waziri, explained that the workshop was organized following the directive of the Vice-Chancellor to enable beneficiaries of previous TETFund-sponsored trainings to transfer knowledge to other staff members.

He disclosed that 64 academic staff from different faculties participated alongside representatives from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Aminu Saleh College of Education and Federal University of Health Sciences.

The workshop featured expert presentations on innovation, research commercialization, academia-industry collaboration, emotional intelligence, university-community partnerships and strategies for building sustainable research collaborations.
