Bauchi Govt Moves to End Recurring Flooding in Affected Communities
By Ahmed Ahmed
The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling recurring flood disasters affecting several communities across the state through sustainable engineering and environmental interventions.

As part of efforts to address the persistent flooding, a high-powered delegation of engineers led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Engr. Mohammed Hamisu Garba, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected areas in Gajin Dunguri Community, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The inspection followed directives from the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who expressed concern over the devastating impact of flooding on lives, farmlands, roads, drainage systems, and other critical infrastructure within vulnerable communities.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Garba said the assessment was in line with the administration’s resolve to provide lasting solutions to environmental and infrastructural challenges facing residents across the state.

According to him, Governor Bala Mohammed had instructed the ministry to immediately evaluate the extent of damage caused by the flood in order to recommend urgent and long-term engineering measures capable of preventing future occurrences.
He explained that the team inspected damaged culverts, drainage channels, erosion-prone locations, and affected roads to enable the ministry to prepare a comprehensive technical report for government action.
The Permanent Secretary assured residents that the state government remained committed to safeguarding lives and property through effective flood control projects, drainage expansion, erosion management, and road rehabilitation initiatives.
He also urged residents to support government efforts by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways and drainage channels, noting that blocked drains contribute significantly to flooding during heavy rainfall.
Community leaders and residents commended Gov.Mohammed for the swift intervention and appealed for urgent implementation of recommended flood control measures to avert further destruction in the area.
