No fewer than 37 executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State have defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The development was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Sabo Mohammed, Adviser on Media and Communication to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, and made available to journalists on Friday in Bauchi.
According to the statement, the defectors, comprising local government and ward executives of the APC, announced their decision during a political gathering held on Thursday, where they pledged loyalty and support to the governorship ambition of Senator Shehu Buba Umar under the platform of the PRP.
The defection exercise was coordinated by Hon. Maiwada Bakojin Misau and Hon. Shehu Dubai Gari Misau, who described the move as a political awakening motivated by the desire for justice, fairness and inclusive leadership in Bauchi State.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the former APC officials cited lack of internal democracy, poor leadership and neglect of grassroots members as reasons for leaving the ruling party.
The group expressed confidence in Senator Umar’s leadership style, particularly his grassroots engagement and community development efforts.
The statement further revealed that majority of the defectors were from Ajili/Gugulin Ward in Misau Local Government Area, the political ward of the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Mohammed Pate.
Welcoming the new members, Senator Umar assured them of equal treatment and active participation in the affairs of the PRP, while reaffirming the party’s commitment to justice, unity and transparent leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
