The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abdurrahman Mohammed faction has condemned an attack allegedly carried out by suspected political thugs during the affirmation of the party’s governorship aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at the party’s Secretariat along Maiduguri bypass in Bauchi, where armed youths riding motorcycles allegedly disrupted activities and vandalised property during the event.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the venue while the declaration programme was ongoing, smashing windscreens and damaging vehicles parked outside the Secretariat.

Several party members were also reportedly injured during the attack.According to sources at the scene, no fewer than 15 buses were damaged, while billboards and posters mounted around the Secretariat were torn down by the assailants.

When contacted for reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said he would verify the incident but had yet to provide further details as of Tuesday.

Addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Bauchi, PDP National Ex-Officio, Mohammed Sabo Abubakar, described the incident as unfortunate and capable of heightening political tension in the state.

He alleged that some individuals may have sponsored the attackers, although he stopped short of directly accusing any political party or government officials.

Abubakar called on political leaders and supporters across the state to promote peaceful political activities and avoid acts capable of triggering violence ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also confirmed that the party had formally reported the incident to the police for investigation.
