Sen. Shehu Buba Umar, Bauchi State governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the 2027 election, has led party stalwarts and supporters to formally flag off campaigns for the party’s candidates in the forthcoming State Assembly bye-elections in Disina and Sakwa constituencies.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Bauchi by Comrade Sabo Mohammed, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the senator.
The campaign activities were held in Disina District of Shira Local Government Area and Sakwa District of Zaki Local Government Area.
In Disina, Shehu Buba, accompanied by Hon. Abubakar Kani Faggo, former member of the House of Representatives and PRP candidate for Shira/Giade Federal Constituency, presented Alhaji Rilwanu Galadiman Disina as the party’s candidate for the bye-election.
Also present was Hon. Mohammed Samaila Isah, PRP candidate for Shira State Constituency.
The senator urged political leaders and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, responsibly and with civility.
He expressed concern over the use of hateful and inappropriate language by some public figures, stressing that political leaders had a responsibility to provide positive examples, particularly for younger generations.
Shehu Buba said political competition should focus on ideas, policies, leadership qualities and service to the people rather than personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric and actions capable of creating tension.
At Sakwa, the PRP candidate presented Hon. Abubakar Baba Kafin Larabawa as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
He described him as an experienced politician with relevant leadership experience and commitment to public service.
The senator also called on supporters to back Alhaji Sabo Babaji Katagum, PRP candidate for Zaki Federal Constituency, and Comrade Isah Mohammed, candidate for Katagum State Constituency.
Shehu Buba separately visited the District Heads of Disina and Sakwa, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mustapha and Alhaji Hamisu Dariya, respectively, seeking their support for peaceful and orderly elections.
He urged traditional and community leaders to educate youths on peaceful democratic participation and discourage thuggery, violence and intimidation.
The campaign attracted the PRP State Chairman, members of the State Executive Committee, Deputy Governorship Candidate Rt. Hon. Tijjani Mohammed Aliyu, candidates and supporters from various constituencies, as well as women and youth groups.
Shehu Buba thanked supporters and stakeholders for their participation and urged them to remain law-abiding throughout the electoral process.
