A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State, pledging to deliver inclusive governance and tackle youth unemployment.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi by Abubakar Al-Sadique, Chief Communication Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation.
Dr. Wunti said his decision followed persistent calls from citizens, political stakeholders, and supporters across the state urging him to join the race.
He made the announcement during a courtesy visit to APC leaders in Bauchi Local Government Area, marking his first formal engagement with party structures at both local and state levels.
Addressing party officials and supporters, Wunti said his ambition was driven by a sense of duty rather than personal interest.
“Allah knows I only accepted to contest due to the pressure to help secure the future of our unemployed youth and protect the next generation,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and outlined plans to promote transparency, inclusiveness, and sustainable economic growth, with a focus on youth empowerment and equal opportunities.
The aspirant also congratulated newly inaugurated APC leaders in the local government, expressing confidence in their capacity to strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of 2027.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Rt. Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Miya, introduced him to stakeholders, noting that the visit aimed to foster unity and deepen political engagement.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Bauchi LGA, Alhaji Biyali, described Wunti as a seasoned philanthropist whose contributions to human development and mentorship have been impactful.
At the state secretariat, Wunti reiterated his commitment to party unity and democratic principles, promising to work with all leaders and ensure fairness if elected.
State APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan Tilde, welcomed his aspiration, noting that credible candidates like Wunti are vital to the party’s success in 2027.Observers say the declaration is expected to energize Bauchi’s political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections
