The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the state Executive to re-establish the Science Secondary School, Dass, as part of efforts to strengthen science and technology education and boost socio-economic development in the area.
The resolution followed a motion presented by the Chief Whip, Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada, representing Bogoro Constituency, and co-sponsored by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Jamilu Umar Dahiru, alongside other lawmakers.
Presenting the motion, Nakwada noted that reviving the school would create a conducive environment for students to excel in science-based disciplines, thereby nurturing future innovators and professionals critical to the state’s development.
The Assembly commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for upgrading the former Science Secondary School, Dass, into a College of Education (Technical), describing the move as a step toward expanding access to quality technical education and enhancing local development.
Despite this progress, lawmakers expressed concern over the absence of a science secondary school in the area, describing it as a gap in the advancement of scientific education.
They recalled the institution’s legacy in promoting academic excellence and producing notable graduates.
The House also highlighted the need for sustained investment in educational infrastructure, particularly in local government areas with strong traditional institutions.
Consequently, the Assembly urged the Executive to re-establish the school and ensure adequate funding, staffing, and learning facilities.
It maintained that reviving the institution would complement existing educational initiatives and promote human capital development in Bauchi State.
