The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Auwal Jatau, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), aligning with Governor Bala Mohammed in a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jatau’s resignation, which takes effect from May 1, 2026, was disclosed in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Muslim Lawal, from the Office of the Deputy Governor.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Murmur South Ward in Zaki Local Government Area, Jatau expressed appreciation to the party for providing him opportunities to serve in various capacities.

“The platform of the PDP has been instrumental in shaping my political journey and has given me the privilege to contribute meaningfully to the development of our state and the nation,” he stated.

He, however, attributed his decision to the lingering internal crisis within the party, noting that the absence of clear and cohesive leadership had created uncertainty and hindered the political aspirations of members.

Jatau said the prevailing situation made it difficult for him to effectively pursue his future political objectives within the PDP.The deputy governor also confirmed his decision to join the APM alongside Governor Mohammed, pledging loyalty and commitment to the new political platform.

He congratulated the governor on the move and urged his political associates, supporters and well-wishers to join the APM and work collectively towards its success in the 2027 elections.
